But Moschino's Cheap & Chic range is always happy to play with the kooky and the kitsch. This collection was an upbeat colour-fest including the sort of splashy floral prints seen in London and New York.
At times - as is so often the case when clothes are styled up for a show - this eclectic mish-mash, with its pops of mandarin, lemon and turquoise, could look a little much. Break it down, however, and it wasn't hard to extrapolate the on-trend separates such as the gentle folds of the balloon-shape skirts, or the slouchy, oversized tops and skinny trouser combinations.
Silhouettes sometimes harked back to the Fifties with fitted waists and dresses made with unevenly dyed grosgrain ribbon and macramé, but always stopped just short of being twee. And could anything be taken too seriously when a handful of the evening gowns featured enormous photographic images of rabbits and butterflies printed on to duchesse satin?
Giorgio Armani surely sits in the Milanese minority, such is his reluctance to pay homage to anything that is obviously vulgar. That doesn't mean he isn't fond of a little sparkle or shine; just that, chez Armani, things are a little more toned down.
The mainline show yesterday was just as subtle as Sunday's Emporio show, and all the better for it. Gone were distracting accoutrements, fussy trousers and headgear. This was a collection about jackets, from elegant, nipped-in versions with pleats inserted at the back to others with oversized collars or hems that finished at two sharp points.
Armani also chose patterned textures in moody greys and mushroom taupes rather than a mass of print. Teamed with tapered trousers or belted, shantung shorts, this collection was richer than ever in smart daywear.
Italian exuberance came via sequinned or crystal-embellished loose capes and cardigan jackets, designed to be worn nonchalantly over a tea dress or chiffon gown. Eveningwear in pale duck-egg or a splash of blush pink was as simple as it was fluid. Much less of the va-va voom diva than we have seen in the past.
Producing a summer collection for a knitwear house predominantly known for its winter woollies is no easy feat, but that has not deterred Clare Waight Keller, who joined one of Britain's most famous exports in 2005.
So what was up with all that volume around the waist? Playing with proportions and getting them wrong can prove disastrous. Few women want to add unnecessary bulk to their frame and if they are fashion-forward enough to try, it needs to look obvious. It was unclear whether the first few paint-splattered outfits were drop-waist dresses or randomly pleated styles that had been gathered in too loosely.
Fortunately, things picked up, with gauzy, fine separates in monochromatic shades or off-neutrals, and with some fresh detailing: pin-tucking, pleating, draping, ruching. Other highlights were the modern interpretation of the Victorian sailor suit, abstract, rectangular prints on sporty tunic dresses, and white shirts with rows of embroidered panelling. Ruffles also turned up, rather awkwardly on the back seams of a grey leather jacket, and more successfully as tiered sections on tops and dresses.
Does sex sell? Seemingly so for a handful of designers who can't resist a flash of thigh atop bondage-style skyscraper heels and who, (one has to marvel) still manage to build up multimillion-pound brands. It's certainly the usual route of design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The nautical theme seen yesterday, then, was a definite change of tack. Channelling a 1930s Deauville theme is a clever move:stripes are a summer staple in most women's wardrobes, and score an instant hit with discerning fashion editors.
At times the references were a little too literal: embroidered anchors sewn on to navy sweaters, flag motifs on bags, and a sailor's knot logo that veered scarily into air-hostess territory. Mostly, however, they had fun, adding their Italian spin to sequin-stripe sweaters, red and white bouclé-knit jackets and high patent wedges and layering on the baubles and oversized rosettes. Flashes of gold appeared in the crunchy, taffeta skirts; we saw animal-print coats as well as a finale of retro-inspired eveningwear. Well, this is Italy - did you think they were really going to resist a bit of bling?

French designer probably most well known for his tattoo art-inspired Ed Hardy clothing line plans to buy MJ'shouse and turn it into MJ memorial. No, not Neverland I am talking about, it's the one he was renting for 0,000 a month in LA. The US based designer, known for his Von Dutch and Ed Hardy collections, plans to create a Jacko-themed complex similar to Elvis Presley's Graceland and to open it for public every year on 25th of June. The 50-year-old singer Jackson reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at the Audigier mansion on Thursday 25th of June 09 and died hours later. Rather than renting out the seven-bedroom home again, the designer, who leases the estate from Ed Hardy CEO Hubert Guez, plans to relocate his headquarters there in December 09. Ok, if you are wondering about MJ being friends with Audigier then let me tell you, to quote a Michael Jackson song, "You Are Not Alone" Audigier apparently became fast friends with Michael in 2008 when the two made each other's acquaintance.
Jackson even made an appearance at Audigier's birthday party. Well, as brief as their friendship was, Audigier now feels so inspired by his late friend's passing that he is buying the house to give a Tribute to the 'King of Pop' Michel Jackson. Just to inform you Colony Capital bought the California ranch in 2008 for 20 million pounds ( million) and is keen to sell. Never land is now worth an estimated 60 million pounds. Though it’s a nice gesture however the point to be considered is how the Jackson family feels about it.
The Paris Couture Week has definitely witnessed some breathtaking designs and creations from the famed fashion houses. Unlike the previous collection, fashionist as present out there approved and accepted its new creation from the house of Valentino. Taking the design legacy forward, the designer duo successfully took over from their precursor Alessandra Facchinetti by presenting their second haute couture collection. The celebrated shade of red was found missing from the Valentino runway after the designer Valentino Garavani retired. And this time, the co-creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli chose black, beige, multiple variations of grey that include metallic and gunmetal as their color palette. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who were the former accessories designers of the house are definitely taking Valentino in a totally new direction. With what Piccoli called, A story of shadows, the collection featured leggy dresses and miniskirts which came with ruffles, lace, in shades of blacks that provided a young, sexy and seductive look.
Bustiers in nude tulle put the foundation of the two-toned collection, which was overlaid by panels of black peek-a-boo lace. The thigh-skimming skirts offered that perfect ladylike look. Taking the show ahead, the leggy dresses and miniskirts were followed by floor-length gown made from tufts of black tulle, teamed up with a beige bustier. Along with tunic dresses, the runway also witnessed some numbers of crinoline skirts that flared in the back. The designer used quite a bit of lace in chiffon and organza with encrusted and crinoline flashes. Some of the dresses had the simplicity of t-shirts, others came with short dance skirts, bustled and ruffled and sometimes glinting with muted silver beading. The detailed craftsmanship can be easily seen in each ripple and shadow layers of the tulle. The models were given a nude look with not much make-up. The headpieces with extravagant organza volume were amazing.

"Geometry has always been considered as the first step while drawing or sketching. The collection can be worn with ethnic and western dresses and is acceptable universally. The unique feature lies down the fact that these designs are eternal and never goes out of fashion," says Rajeev Arora of Amrapali. The latest buzz in the fashion circuit is the emergence of two-toned jewellery. Designers in Europe, Turkey and Italy are all following this trend and I am proud to inform that Amrapali was the first to start this trend in Indian two years back, he added. On asking about future plans he said, "we are all set to participate in the JA Show in New York, going to be held from 26-29 July with our new collection. We will also be showcasing our collections at a jewellery trade event called International Jewellery London in September.

Balenciaga is a fashion house founded by Cristbal Balenciaga, a Spanish designer, born in the Basque Country. He had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as "the master of us all" by Christian Dior.[1] His bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet ultra-modern shapes were trademarks of the house. The house of Balenciaga is now owned by the French multinational company PPR.

The Spanish royal family and the aristocracy wore his designs, but when the Spanish Civil War forced him to close his stores, Balenciaga moved to Paris.
The designer house is now run by Nicolas Ghesquire.
Balenciaga opened his Paris couture house on Avenue George V in August 1937, and his first runway show featured designs heavily influenced by the Spanish Renaissance.[3] Balenciaga's success in Paris was nearly immediate. Within two years, the French press lauded him as a revolutionary, and his designs were highly sought-after. Carmel Snow, the editor of Harper's Bazaar was an early champion of his designs.
Customers risked their safety to travel to Europe during World War II to see Balenciaga's clothing.[3] During this period, he was noted for his "square coat," with sleeves cut in a single piece with the yoke, and for his designs with black (or black and brown) lace over bright pink fabric.
However, it was not until the post-war years that the full scale of the inventiveness of this highly original designer became evident. His lines became more linear and sleek, diverging from the hourglass shape popularized by Christian Dior's New Look.[3] The fluidity of his silhouettes enabled him to manipulate the relationship between his clothing and women's bodies.[3] In 1951, he totally transformed the silhouette, broadening the shoulders and removing the waist. In 1955, he designed the tunic dress, which later developed into the chemise dress[3] of 1958. Other contributions in the postwar era included the spherical balloon jacket (1953), the high-waisted baby doll dress (1957), the cocoon coat (1957), the balloon skirt (1957), and the sack dress (1957).[3] In 1959, his work culminated in the Empire line, with high-waisted dresses and coats cut like kimonos. His manipulation of the waist, in particular, contributed to "what is considered to be his most important contribution to the world of fashion: a new silhouette for women."
In the 1960s, Balenciaga was an innovator in his use of fabrics: he tended toward heavy fabrics, intricate embroidery, and bold materials.[3] His trademarks included "collars that stood away from the collarbone to give a swanlike appearance" and shortened "bracelet" sleeves.[3] His often spare, sculptural creationsncluding funnel-shape gowns of stiff duchess satin worn to acclaim by clients such as Pauline de Rothschild, Bunny Mellon, Marella Agnelli, Gloria Guinness and Mona von Bismarckere considered masterworks of haute couture in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1960 he designed the wedding dress for Queen Fabiola of Belgium made of ivory duchess satin trimmed with white mink at the collar and the hips. Jackie Kennedy famously upset John F. Kennedy for buying Balenciaga's expensive creations while he was President because he feared that the American public might think the purchases too lavish. Her haute couture bills were eventually discreetly paid by her father-in-law, Joseph Kennedy.

Balenciaga is now owned by the Gucci Group (part of PPR), and its womenswear and menswear is headed by Nicolas Ghesquire.
There was some conflict within the house of Balenciaga on Nicolas Ghesquiere's designs. The Gucci group said that if Balenciaga didn't become profitable within the year 2007, they would replace him.[citation needed] Ghesquire's F/W 2005 line showed that the house was not only profitable, but also attracted a number of celebrity customers including editor-in-chief at Vogue, Anna Wintour.
The house of Balenciaga designed the dresses worn by Jennifer Connelly and Nicole Kidman to the 2006 Academy Awards, as well as the wedding gown Kidman wore for her recent marriage to Keith Urban.[6] Kylie Minogue has also worn a Balenciaga dress for her "Slow" music video and for her concert tour.
Today the brand is also famous for its line of motorcycle-inspired handbags, especially the famous "Lariat". Balenciaga currently owns only three boutiques in the United States their U.S. headquarters in New York on W 22nd St., Honolulu, and Los Angeles. A Boston and Orange County, CA boutique are planned to open in the coming months.
Balenciaga's Fall/Winter 2007 show has wowed Editor in chief of Teen Vogue Amy Astley, so much that a spread in Teen Vogue named "Global Studies", shot in Beijing, was influenced by the recent line, including skinny jodphers, tight, fitted blazers, beaded embellished scarves and other multiculti mixes.
Balenciaga is also very well known for creating avant-garde structural pieces, being on the edge of fashion and in the future of ready to wear.

Well unless you’ve been hibernating in Northern Alaska for the past few months it probably hasn’t escaped your notice that the long awaited big screen debut of television’s favourite newspaper columnist and her Mr Big is finally with us. So what was it about Carrie Bradshaw and her group of New York friends that so captured the imagination? They certainly represented the ultimate in high style and fashion, and when the series was being shot the Sex and the City wardrobe (more particularly Carrie’s wardrobe) and stylist duo Patricia Field and Rebecca Weinberg were talked about almost as much as the plots and characters. In the recent SATC movie, Field estimates there were over 300 costume changes for the four women. “Everything that’s not borrowed I keep” says lucky actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Carrie’s style on the show was an eclectic mix of high fashion and the bohemian, seamlessly blending the vintage with the new, and always with those killer shoes. The show is well known for providing a huge lift for the profile of shoe designer (or should we say shoe artist?) Manolo Blahnik, whose high heeled creations Carrie was rarely seen without. As he puts it, “Shoes…help transform a woman.”

If you do want to splurge a bit on one item, do it on a well fitting maternity jean, particularly if you are jeans person. Aside from sleepwear, this is one fashion item you will get the most mileage from, so it is worth it to spend a few extra dollars to find a pair that will last and stretch you through your pregnancy. Gayatri Khanna opened the 3 designer show, with a line of clothes in floral prints and stuck to the prints for most of the collection. Gayatri is known for her elegant dressy signature look, made an effort to break her evening, cocktail dresses image but the effort was quite visible. For the Spring-Summer 2010, the designer has used flowy fabrics mainly satin, georgettes, silk satin, linen, crepe silk and taffeta silk crafted into body flattering silhouettes. The collection had a range of jumpsuits, draped bustier tops, and mini-skirts. Few pieces of one shouldered dress with draped silhouette featured multi-string detailing and hand painted embellishments. The black and white one shouldered tunic with bubble hem and embroidered flowers was well applauded. This was followed by a line up of tunic dresses with cord work embroidery by the young designer Tanvi Kedia. With a girlie feel to the collection, the designs mostly saw pleated long dresses, kaft an gowns and long skirts. The designer has nicely experimented with the Indian handcraft and traditional craftsmanship. Some of the clothes had well knitted and intricate colourful sequenced embroidery work as the neckline.
Abhishek Dutta presented his new collection – Tomorrow land. Asymmetrical hemlines and uneven cuts depict the uncertainty in future and hence the title. Abhishek played a lot of khaki fabric to create his jackets and dresses. He had his models faced masked in translucent black and were accessorized in black leggings and full sleeves gloves. This show witnessed a balanced presentation of menswear and womens wear. Model Pia Trivedi looking stunning in an orange hued dress, was the show stopper.
Charu Prasher had an interesting start to her show. A group of giggling girls in floral dresses came walking the ramp and then Tinu Verghese one among them took over the ramp and started the show. It was a blossoming, flowering and budding season for Charu Parashar and with this the designer is aiming at exploring the feminine and romantic side of a woman. Sunflowers, palm green and rosy pinks ruled the palette. And to suit this floral theme, the models walked the ramp with floral baskets and bunch of roses and lilies. Blooming sunflowers prints presented in an array of dresses in bright yellow colour were quite apt for the spring summer season. Seema and Swapnilhad a mix of both western and Indian silhouettes in their Spring-Summer line up. A season of Romance – the collection is inspired by the charm and beauty of spring and summer. Model Shonali Rosarioopened the show for the designer duo flaunting a white lehenga with the blouse heavily embellished with metallic studs. Most of the garments had a sequence work with silver thread which offered a rich look to the ssarees and dresses. Lisa Hayden looked royal in a black draped dress. The Review: Gul Panag, actor: I loved Seema-Swapan, they had such amazing collection of saris. Both the shows were at either ends of the spectrum; even Charu was great with her Boho-floral pieces. Very feminine! Meher Castellino, fashion critic: Nothing very new but Charu presented some bright colours on the runway. Avigyan Prakash, News presenter: lots of colours loved the collection.
